Fashion week- about Croatian design and an overview on FWs
by Unknown
Some friends and I went to Croatian fashion week, known as Cro-A-Porter. It was the second day, taking place on Zagreb airport. Everything was set in that theme, with a 'runway' and models being called for 'departure'.
(all the pics are taken with my phone)
The biggest show was when in the second part, when they opened the hangar and brought a real plane in, from which models walked out and strolled down the runway.
That was all great and the show was pretty cool. But it was a compensation for something- and that's the lack of creativity which is a general problem for our designers. It's always the same; asymmetrical designs for women and feminine designs for men.
Not that there isn't any good clothing; far from that- but it's kind of same all the time. We haven't seen anything new, just variations of the same.
I've seen pictures from other days and there were some great pieces. There are few brands and designers, such as Nebo, Tatjana Pantoš, Aleksandar Žeravec and Zigman that never cease to surprise.
There are some of my favorites from second night, all by Tatjana Pantoš.
Black and white combinations were constant, alongside pale pink and shades of burgundy.
There's mostly evening dresses and gowns. Hardly any pret-a-porter, functional clothing. All in all, it was great but nothing spectacular. It's more of a show and show-off rather than a show of fashion.

Now about the overview of global trends.
It's fashion week here, fashion week there... Everyone's suddenly a fashion expert and has their own opinion on trends. From Paris, NY, London, Milan... We're booming with pics of what's hot and what's not.
Fashion is great and who couldn't love watching models strolling down runaways and couture pieces. It's all great until people start praising the silliest things (like bunny ears or Birkenstocks for example- sorry but they're just hideous). Just because it's high-end fashion doesn't mean it's the next big thing.
Luckily, this year's runways were more normal than ever (except the awful Prada wooden platform sandals). Anyone remember knee warmers and harem pants? And let's not even mention the studs overkill.
I'd like to highlight the fact that the next Spring's 'style' is going to be nothing more than recycled trends from past few years. Tassels, transparent materials, parkas, black&white, lace... sound familiar to anybody?
Maybe it seems I'm in some shady state of mind, hence the nagging about this year's trends. I'm not, it's just that its the bit of disappointment in me that killed my mood.
But to lighten up a bit, here's my collection on this year's best of best in show-
Valentino
Sonia Rykiel
Chloe
Celine
Kenzo
Mugler
Anthony Vacarelo
Balmain
Nina Ricci
Ugh I could go on with Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, BALMAIN (caps cause they're too cool). There were highlights and not so great moments, but the later ones were fewer. After all, they are famous for a reason, right?
Will write soon, xx
Beautiful :)
