UNKNOWN

A few months ago I was searching for Disclosure's tour dates and locations and stumbled upon the Unknown festival. It wasn't promoted in Croatia and 99% of people never heard of it, but it had dozens of artist and was turbo popular in Britain and Germany.
So a few friends of mine and I said why the hell not and went to see what was it all about.

All photos are from my phone and Instagram

The festival was set in a camp outside Rovinj (also my fave city on the coast). It's a big campus with five stages set throughout; main on the beach, a few in different forests, some hidden and such. The whole place was amazing and decorated in a cute, even hipster way. They organized paint fights, boat parties, beach after party raves...
Hammocks, tents, weird art installations and other stuff decorated the site. But what amazed me most was the vibe and good feels that were ever present- everyone was just so happy and in a great mood. Also, I didn't hear a single person speak Croatian; most people were Britain with some German and other. It was like someone transferred a festival from London directly to Croatia, without changing the crowd. I just LOVED the glitter makeup, boho clothes, all the styles and costumes people wore.

About the music; I must admit I've not heard about most of the artist but the good thing is they were all surprisingly good. Main stage was always a show, featuring artist like Jungle, London Grammar, Moderat, dj Ten Walls... It was something different from Ultra and other electro-music happenings. This was all about chilling and good time. I only wish we had the weather for swimming and laying in the beach. It was cold the last few days and even rainy.

I think I got deaf at this point-

But all in all it was great, and I'm reading the comments on Facebook and people are praising, going on how it was one of the best festivals this year. My ultimate plan is to get to Siget next year, so we can say this was a warmup?

Travel Diaries: short one about Munich

Every year, Mum and I travel at least two times to Munich. Mum goes for business, I assist but I'm in it for the shopping and all the chills.

The fair, called Fabric Start, is a big event and goes for a few days. It's really cool to see all the upcoming color trends and materials. We pick materials and design new clothing on-site. It's demanding but also real fun if you're into that kind of stuff.

(All photos here were taken with my phone and most are from my Instagram, so ignore the quality)

The rest is all about drinking good coffee and simply chilling. The city's gorgeous, one of my faves. It's both urban and full of old buildings, plus everyone's good looking and dresses real good.
We stay at a cute little old-but-gold hotel called Torbrau that's like 5 minutes walk from the main square.

But, as it goes with me and my luck, I got really sick on the trip this time. We arrived around 8 am, and by 10 I was hot with a fever and dropping med pills like candy. So shopping was a bit of a downer cause I really wasn't in a mood, but I still managed to grab some new makeup and a few good pieces. Plus a three floor Forever 21 opened so I had to sniff around there a bit.

It's my Mum in a casual leather jacket and little-old-me shivering under a huge scarf and ten layers...

Anyway it was a relaxation for both mind and body. I really hope we'll make it to the fair that's going around February (just in time to catch a prom dress, maybe?)

Will write soon about the trip to Unknown Festival, xx

Smells like Fall

It's almost Fall- my favorite time of the year. I must admit, cold suits me more than the heat. Plus, the clothing in this season is always gorgeous. Fall's just great- everyone's still got traces of tan from Summer, school's at its start so it still isn't that stressful, it's cold but not that cold and everyone's wearing leather jackets and big scarves... I almost can't wait for it, and for Summer to end.
Being in that mood, I tried out a combo few days ago. It's already starting to get cold so I tried out some new stuff I bought for colder weather. It's really fun and colorful and it's also something I'll be wearing for my next trip to Munich.

It was a really quick shoot- we were over in 5 minutes haha

Animal prints are always a safe zone, but this zebra print seems fresh and goes great on jeans, leather, ripped... And with the faux fur vest it felt even a bit retro. Mustard pants make the combo fully Fall-like. The golden mustard is a big one this season, I was checking out Pantone's color report and it's all over it, going with pale blues and beiges, and with dark sea-weed greens and browns. For the boys it's pale beiges and cappuccino colors.
About the trip- Mum and I go to Munich every fall for the Munich Fabric Start. It's a fabric fair and Mum goes there for color and style insights she need for work. We spend a whole day at the fair (it's really REALLY huge- one of the biggest ones in Europe) and then spend the next having great coffee and shopping in Munich center. It's like a mini vacation for us and we always have a great time.
The fair's also great to visit cause you get all the info about next season's trends and color reports. Mum makes me her secretary and it's a lot of work for me too out there- meeting new business associates, gathering samples, looking for innovations in fabric produce...
I'll write when I get back, but it'll be a busy few weeks ahead of me cause this Sunday I'm going to Unknown festival in Rovinj with some friends so I'll be MIA for a week or so.
Write as soon as I can, xx

Shirt and vest are H&M, pants, sunnies and bag are Zara, shoes are Topshop, bracelet and necklace are Zaks, watch is Michael Kors.

Travel diaries: The big vacation (Part 3)

Language... has created the word 'loneliness' to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word 'solitude' to express the glory of being alone.

- Paul Tillich

Benefits of solitude are slowly overgrowing every other benefit of company.
Not that it's stressful being in a group or with people, but from time to time you just need to get away from it all. Have your share of silence and to do with it as you want. Staring in the wall or blasting music from your iPhone- everyone has their own therapy.
But you just need it. It's a mental vacation. I'd get up early (9 a.m. is early when you're out all night haha) and drink coffee from the terrace looking at joggers and dog-walkers.
It's something I used to get from swimming. I used to be on the synchro-swim team, and the only thing that stuck on me from that time is the feeling of diving in a cold pool and the moment when it all gets quiet, and you are able to sort out your own thoughts.

It's so calm and peaceful. Being in water in general, but when you're all by yourself it's just a chill and you have nothing to worry. It's something I did on this vacation- rest from people. I'd be with friends almost the whole day, but I got the mornings for myself.

I think solitude's something people look for in books, hikes, walks, (blogging?), shopping... Maybe even unintentionally. No one likes to be alone. Being alone comes with loneliness. But being by yourself- it's just great sometimes.
There's sometimes this feeling I get, and it's also something I once read in a book, that in our group of friends we tend to loose parts of our personality and get a "collective" personalty- we all become alike. It may sound silly and stupid, but I think I've seen it with my friends. It's nothing bad, just a consequence of being with people all the time. Hence, the said solitude comes necessary.

That's why I like this quiet, calm surrounding of Lošinj. You get to be alone and away from the noise. It's so so nice, I miss it already.

That's about it from my thoughts and vacationing. I gathered plenty of new ideas and topics, but they'll be under their own titles and not travel diaries.
I have a lot of work ahead of me, including a part business-part pleasure trip to Munich and a festival coming ahead. Also, Fall is coming and it's my favorite season, plus all the shopping that's been going on... I think we'll be having a great season :)
Write soon, xx

Travel diaries: The big vacation (Part 2)

There's something supreme about going out and just dancing. Maybe it comes with age, but we've experienced something new this Summer. We'd go out and just dance for the sake of dancing and enjoying music- not to amaze others or to seduce boys. Simply enjoying ourselves...

I LOVE this pics I took, from the club we went to- the lights turned out amazing, plus I threw in a filter or two

Laser lights and good music got me in some trance and I could go all night falling in love again and again with that feeling. One night a DJ called Steve Supreme came, and I swear I had an out-of-body experience from his songs. He played one of my favorites, but mixed and I think that's the sound of awesomeness- Sex on Fire (remix by Peter Shakey).
We went out almost every night, did stupid things but hey, they make memories don't they :)

I took a short trip to Krk, an island close to Lošinj, to visit my friend during a festival that was going on there. (it's also my fave pic from this season)

The thing is, I think most people forgot to enjoy themselves. Everyone's pumped up about going all out and getting wasted. It's all about being best dressed (although it is nice to feel pampered and hot), or going to the best spot and showing off-when actually the best thing is exploring your senses and experimenting with new thing and feelings. It's so beautiful to loose yourself through music and lights. It's something I could go on for pages and pages haha
So yeah, I don't know how much more I can write about all this- Summer adventures were great and some were epic, but I can't share too much ;)
Will write soon, xx

Travel diaries: The big vacation

Last couple of years, my family and I vacation on the island of Lošinj (pronounced lo-sheen, the most beautiful place on Earth). It's the greenest, most tranquil and peaceful spot ever. There are no words to explain my love for that place. Not only it's heavenly there, but I also met so many great friends from all over Croatia and other countries, and we continue to hang out there each year.
It's a completely different set of mind over there- the amount of chill and relaxation that's going on is amazing.
The island has one bigger town, Mali Lošinj (translated as little Lošinj, even though it's bigger than the other one), and a smaller place called Veli Lošinj (translated as big Lošinj) that's almost a village and also the place where I'm staying. The two places are distanced a couple of kilometers. I've only taken pics of Veli Lošinj because we'd only go to Mali by night.

(note; I didn't edit these pictures due to severe laziness)

What I love about this place is that it still has its soul. It didn't mold itself towards tourists like every other place. One store, couple of cafeterias and restaurants, a bakery and that's pretty much it.

Apart from the two towns, the island is filled with small bays and beaches that each has it's own name, i.e. Kriška (literal translate would be slice). A few friends and I went on the said beach one day- we hiked for about two hours there and back, but it was worth it, it was the most serene day of all.

(some pics, like this one, were taken with my phone and I was still so pale and bloated here haha)

The most beautiful part of the day was the evening and sundown- we'd all be on the beach and in the beach bar, just chillin and killing time. The look over the bay is extraordinary and when the Sun's setting down it's so peaceful.

I'm in love love love with all of this.

That's about that in general. Also, that's why I haven't been posting anything- I brought my laptop and camera, but I've literally shot a few pics of the village and a few landscapes as you can see, but not one outfit.
The couple of weeks I've spent there were basically made of tanning and chilling with friends on the beach, then nightouts and dancing and experimenting till dawn.
I'll make three posts, including this one, to write some things that came around my mind in this past time. This post I'll dedicate to the beauties of nature and benefits of solitude. Other two will be about experimenting and personal thoughts on friendships gone further. Most pics will be from my Instagram, but you can see them on my IG before I publish them here, follow me- gabriela_rukavina for constant new pics of outings and outfits :)
